How to be a fan of problematic things
I very much agree with this post. The only thing I would add is that almost every book/show/etc. in fandom has something wrong with it. This doesn’t mean that we can’t discuss what is wrong with it, simply that we recognize it and move on when the time has come. Changing the topic isn’t the right move, but if the only thing you ever say about a series is what’s wrong with it you’re not seeing what else the series can be (unless of course there is nothing good and it’s literally all fucked up).
I’m just saying this because I have countless times heard people spend forever berating a show and then move on to the next thing to pick at. Nothing in the world is entirely free of heterosexism, cissexism, classism, racism, homophobia, ableism, and slut shaming all at the same time.
